Practical checks and shop questions for ECT/IAT circuits, P0128 and temperature-related conditions; save evidence before replacing parts.
This is a non-invasive owner checklist, not an OEM repair procedure or permission to drive.

Codes in this diagnostic topic
These codes share a system-level checklist, but their distinct numbers and meanings are shown below. A code here does not prove a particular vehicle has every listed fault. Use the exact code row and full scan.
| Code | Meaning | Vehicle scope |
|---|---|---|
| P0112 | Intake-air temperature signal low | Exact vehicle scope unverified |
| P0113 | Intake-air temperature signal high | Exact vehicle scope unverified |
| P0117 | Coolant-temperature signal low | Exact vehicle scope unverified |
| P0118 | Coolant-temperature signal high | Exact vehicle scope unverified |
| P0125 | Insufficient warmth for closed-loop operation | Exact vehicle scope unverified |
| P0128 | Warm-up below thermostat-regulation expectation | Exact vehicle scope unverified |
Save the evidence first
- Cold versus warm operation
- Ambient, intake and coolant freeze-frame values
- Actual overheating or heater changes
Safe owner checks
- Do not open a pressurized cooling system while hot.
- When fully cool, use the owner manual to check the permitted reservoir-level view.
- Record a sensor value that is implausible rather than treating it as actual engine temperature.
Questions for a qualified technician
- Does a sensor/circuit bias, thermostat operation, coolant loss or software condition explain the monitor?
- Is the required coolant specification known for the exact vehicle?
Common wrong turns
- P0128 alone does not authorize a thermostat order.
- A sensor circuit-low code is an electrical observation, not necessarily low fluid temperature.
Confirm the repair
- Confirm warm-up behavior using vehicle-specific requirements; inspect for leaks after authorized repairs.
