Check Open Car Recalls by VIN

Use NHTSA's official VIN lookup for open safety recalls. A model-level bulletin or article cannot determine whether your VIN has an unrepaired recall.

Use the official lookup

Open NHTSA recall search ↗

Enter the VIN on NHTSA, then follow the manufacturer instructions. Recall repairs are generally provided without charge; confirm the current remedy and any do-not-drive notice.

What this site does not know

We do not receive live VIN recall results, store VINs or certify campaign eligibility. Recheck directly with NHTSA and the manufacturer.

VIN lookup and campaign lists are different

NHTSA's official search can identify unrepaired safety recalls reported for a particular VIN. A model-year article or a manufacturer communication may describe a campaign but cannot say whether your individual vehicle still needs the remedy. Enter the VIN on the official site and read any manufacturer do-not-drive, park-outside or remedy-availability instructions.

A repair appointment may require the dealer to confirm parts and current campaign instructions. Keep a copy of the recall result and completion paperwork. If a warning remains after a recall repair, ask the shop to diagnose it rather than assuming the campaign addressed every fault.

If no open recall appears

That result is not a mechanical inspection or proof that the warning is harmless. Check the exact owner manual, document the symptom and get qualified diagnosis when needed. A service bulletin or warranty extension can be relevant without appearing as an open safety recall.

Research a model year

A model-year campaign list can help you identify questions to ask a dealer, while the VIN search is still required for an individual open-recall answer.
