Privacy Policy

CarCodes has no account form. Search and safety-helper inputs run in your browser. VIN decoding is an optional direct request to NHTSA vPIC.

Data you enter

Site search and checklist state are not sent to CarCodes. The optional VIN assistant sends the VIN directly to NHTSA vPIC and does not store it in this site. Do not use it if you prefer not to transmit a VIN.

Third parties

Google AdSense code may request ads and process data under Google policies when the site is published. External official links are opened in the current tab and follow those sites’ policies. No GA4 tracking code is included.

Browser tools and third-party requests

The code search, vehicle selector and checklists run in the browser using static site data. The selector may retain a make, model, year and powertrain in session storage so a back navigation does not erase your choice; it does not store a VIN. The optional VIN assistant sends the entered VIN directly to NHTSA vPIC, displays selected returned fields and clears the input afterward. It is a request to a US government service with its own privacy practices.

This site includes Google AdSense loader and placement code, which may request ads and process information under Google's policies. CarCodes does not include Google Analytics 4, an account system or a form that collects a repair history. Email sent to the listed contact is handled by the email providers involved. Do not send a full VIN in a general correction request unless it is necessary.

Your choices

  • Use the browse pages without submitting a VIN.
  • Clear session storage in your browser to remove a saved vehicle selection.
  • Use the official NHTSA recall site directly for current open-recall status.
  • Contact the operator to request correction of site content or an email you sent.
