Transmission codes: retrieve the module’s own evidence

Practical checks and shop questions for P0700, shaft-speed and converter-control faults; save evidence before replacing parts.

CHECK SOON

This is a non-invasive owner checklist, not an OEM repair procedure or permission to drive.

Save the evidence first

  • TCM codes, not just the engine-module request
  • Shift behavior, temperature message and fluid-leak observations
  • Freeze frame before clearing

Safe owner checks

  • Stop if the display says stop safely or motion/control is unreliable.
  • Note whether the issue began cold, hot or while towing.

Questions for a qualified technician

  • Can the tool read the exact TCM and its enhanced data?
  • Are power/wiring/sensor/software or internal mechanical causes supported?
  • For the Honda hybrid bulletin, does cold-start IAT1 meet the branch?

Common wrong turns

  • P0700 is not proof that the transmission must be replaced.
  • Do not add a generic ATF/CVT fluid without the exact specification and procedure.

Confirm the repair

  • Verify shifts/temperature/code status under the OEM procedure; no generic road-test prescription.
