Connector fit is not module coverage
A scanner can plug into a vehicle yet read only emissions-related powertrain data. ABS, SRS, transmission, body controls and manufacturer EV alerts may require a different software license or interface. Even within one brand, coverage can change with model year and module generation. Compare the exact compatibility list from the tool maker before spending money.
A bidirectional command, relearn or coding feature needs more than read access. It can change a vehicle state or require a calibrated procedure. This helper identifies the capability class; it does not validate a product, subscription or procedure on your car.
Questions for the tool maker
- Does this exact year, make, model and module appear in the supported-vehicle list?
- Can it show code status, freeze frame and manufacturer-specific suffixes?
- Is the requested function included without an extra subscription or update?
- What happens if the vehicle uses a gateway, secure access or a newer software version?
