Warning Light Identifier: Narrow the Symbol

Choose an observed symbol or message. The result is a shortlist, not a diagnosis; confirm the exact dashboard wording in the owner manual.

Source check and limits

This reference supports the stated topic only. Model, model year, equipment, current rule or individual vehicle conditions may differ; check the original source before acting.

Confirm the vehicle

Color and shape alone are not enough. Read any message, note the year, make and powertrain, then use the exact manual.

Why a symbol can have several meanings

The same outline can represent an active status, a temporary unavailable feature or a fault, depending on its color, flashing pattern and accompanying text. A triangle is especially broad: it often asks you to read another display rather than naming a failed component. The selector ranks possible matches from the research set but cannot establish that a model year has a particular symbol.

A red warning or any change in braking, steering, temperature or propulsion deserves immediate attention even if the symbol match is uncertain. Green, blue and white indicators may be normal status displays, but still check the exact manual before dismissing an unfamiliar message.

A better description for a shop

  • Record the symbol shape and color in words; an illustration may differ from your cluster.
  • Note steady, flashing or intermittent behavior and whether it changed with speed or weather.
  • Copy the exact message rather than paraphrasing it.
  • Include year, make, model, powertrain and any other warning that appeared at the same time.
